Tile Art

I've always been a huge fan of creating with tiles.  Yes, the tiles that you put on your floor or wall.  Except I put them in other places.  I break them into pieces,  leave them whole, cement them to other household items, glue little bits and pieces of things to them, paper them, and paint on them.  They're cheap and I get to experiment with different techniques.  These 4"x4" tiles here, which were left over from another project, were done with alcohol inks, Lindy's Stamp Gang mists, homemade alcohol sprays and stamps.

The first tiles were done using Tim Holtz alcohol inks.

This tile was done use homemade alcohol spray

 (I used pink, coral, brown,and light green markers; along with alcohol) 

and stamped with Stazon ink. 

The one thing that I love about using the alcohol inks is that no two tiles are ever alike.  Of course, you can use the same combination of colors on several tiles, but they mix and mingle in unexpected ways and still turn out to be beautiful.

I do suggest that when you are finished with decorating your tiles, even if you use your heat gun to dry them more quickly, seal them with either ModPodge or a spray sealant.  They make great coasters or little pieces of art to hang on your wall or display on a stand.

I'll be making a quick trip tomorrow to a local organization here called Restore to grab a bunch of them (they're only $.15...) and experiment some more.

Art Journal

Hi everyone:

I've been trying to do a couple of pages a week in my art journal. And the thing about art journaling is that you either love the page or hate it.  Sometimes, my best work has come about as the result of a mistake. And other times, I know exactly what I'm going for and it works out perfectly.  And then there are times that I really screw up a page.  I'm trying hard to embrace my mistakes and keep those pages in the journal, but there are  times when I tell myself "no way, I don't want anyone to see this!"

This happens to be one of my favorites though.  I used my Lindy's Stamp Gang inks in Tiffany Lou Blue, Ravishing Ruby and Van Dyke Sepia to create the page background and then again to create the butterflies that were punched with my MS punch.
