New Art Journal Pages

Hi everyone:
I'm glad that you stopped by to visit my little piece of blogland.

It's so true that there just isn't enough time in the day to get all of the things that need to be done finished.  Especially if any of that time is used to have fun right?  The normal work day can just drag on and on and on...but as soon as you start having fun - whoosh! it just goes by so fast.

Progress is being made on getting my room back together.  Nothing fancy mind you. But efficient.  And so even though I'm still finding time to craft; which happens six days outta seven, I haven't had the chance to really post anything, anywhere.  I haven't joined in on many challenges either.  But I do try to keep up with what's going on so that I'm not lost in the craft queendom.

I've been working a lot in my art journals.  Of course that's maily because so many items to be used in making cards and scrapbooking and altered art are packed away.  I find it relaxing.  And even though I can't always colorize my pages, I find that I can still do sketches no matter where I'm at.  At work. The doctor's office. On the bus or train. Even in the kitchen while cooking. LOL.

I've posted several of those pages below.  I hope that you like them.

I so enjoy doing the SheArt paintings. This is one of my favorites.
Completed using acrylic paints, Copics, and Chalk markers.

I saw a little girl walking with her mother, holding hands.
Her red ribbon was about to come out of her hair...

I was in a very happy mood and wanted to use a lot of different colors.
This was done using my water color paints.

I completed  this journal page while listening to the new Pharrell Williams hit single "Happy!"

It was a slow day at work. I was bored...lol

I've been holding on to these wing die cuts that I received from my friend, Sharon S.  It was the perfect time to use them along with my new wood grain stencil, Dylusion spray inks, and contact paper.

I have lots more pages to show you; but I'll save them for another time.

Please, while you're here, leave a comment.  I so look forward to reading them!
I'll be back soon.

Until then,

Long time no see...

Hello out there in Blogland!

It's been awhile since I've posted anything...and boy oh boy I've been so busy "just living!"  And although I've been doing lots of projects for the groups and sites that I like to frequent, there isn't always time to take photos and post here and on other crafty sites.  But I do like to keep up with things whenever possible just so that Mojo doesn't run away from home.

However, I noticed that it's been an entire month since I posted to my own blog. Geez!! And I figured it was high time that I get back into the swing of things posting here in my little piece of the world.

And I'm happy that you decided to drop by for a moment to see what I've been up to.  I won't go into a lot of detail; except to write little captions to the photos though; as I'm playing nursemaid to a sick, little boy, and don't want to make too much noise while he's trying to get some rest in my bed.

It's been kinda hard doing a lot of projects.  I'm in the process of de-cluttering my space....And most of my supplies are packed in boxes.  Why is it that in order to clean up, you have to 'mess' up???  Because that's exactly what's going on right now, my room is a mess!  Sigh...I am being told by my son, who's putting up shelves and building for me "small steps Ma, small steps."  Who asked him?! LOL.  I want to be Barbara Eden...as a genie...I want to cross my arms, blink, nod my head and voila! Room complete!  Hey I can dream can't I?!

Ok. That's all for now.  I'll be back soon!
Thanks for stopping by;

#Bring Back Our Girls: My Rambles. Requesting Your Prayers.

That.
Has been the cry of people everywhere.
Not just Black.
Not just White.
Not just Hispanic.
Not just Indian.
Not just American.
Not just British.
Not just Australian.
Everyone. Men. Women. Children.
Musicians.
Artists.
Dancers.
Lawyers.
Doctors.
Activists.
Singers.
Pastors.
Government.
You get it. Everyone.

Let me give you a quick backstory, just in case you've been hiding under a rock or in a cave or not on planet Earth.

In the middle of the night on April 15, more than 300 girls were kidnapped from their school in Chibok, Nigeria. While the horrific crime—carried out by Islamist militant group Boko Haram—went largely unreported for nearly two weeks, you've probably heard a whole lot about the #BringBackOurGirls campaign over the last few weeks and will continue to hear the cry for weeks to come probably.
Prayerfully _NOT_.

Fifty have escaped but more than 276 are still being held captive and  remain with insurgents.   It's unknown what Boko Haram intends to do with them; some believe they'll be sold into slavery, while others contend they'll be held for ransom. It's also unclear what the Nigerian government is doing to help the victims, which is why activists in the African country have been holding protests and taking to social media, their frustration fueled even further by Boko Haram's capture of an additional eight girls on May 5.

I can only IMAGINE what the families of these young girls are going through.  Not knowing. Anything.  And as a mother, it breaks my heart for the mothers of these young women.

As a mother I want the best for my children.  At all times. Forever.  Always.  And one of the things that I've always wanted for them was the right to choose whether they furthered their educations.  In fields of their choosing.  I always said to all of them "it's a big, beautiful world out there," "you have to see what goes beyond what you see here."   I didn't think that a lot of words needed to be spoken to get my point across.  Education. It's important.  See what's out there. There's so much to see. So much to do. So many places to go.  So many people to meet.  So many other cultures to learn. It doesn't matter whether you get paid to do it, or you're doing it because it makes your heart sing.

I won't pretend to write this as if it were a thesis...it definitely will be some rambling going on, so bare with me.  So, here goes the rest of my ramble...

1.  In my opinion concerning education, it's even more so important for women and girls.  Statistically speaking, or in Renee-speak...because men make more money than women who do the same job.  So an education can't possibly hurt.  2.  Not to mention that in poorer countries, young women marry earlier and of course, become mothers themselves earlier. 3. Giving young women a chance to learn gives them more confidence. 4.  Young girls and women usually, by choice, wait longer to have children while pursuing continuing education.  5.  If a young woman can not read or write - how will she survive? Buy food. Clothing. Pay bills, raise children, etc.  How can she possibly teach her children the things that they need to know.  This is how things become a "vicious circle" from generation to generation 6.  Young women and girls will have better self esteem and take care of  themselves better physically, mentally, spiritually, financially.
7.  An education enables them to make genuine choices over the kinds of lives they wish to lead. This is not a luxury. It's a basic human right.

I could go on but I'm sure you get the point and could very well add a lot more to my train of thought.  Just as long as you know the point I'm trying to make....

And so we cry, we beg, we plead .....
Return those girls to their families.  PLEASE. Don't hurt them.  Don't sell them.  Don't turn them into slaves.  Don't humiliate them.  Don't.  There's too much for them to do.  To see.  To learn.  To have chances. There's just too much love being missed by these young women and for them.

And if you're reading this:  Say a prayer for those young women.  For their families. And everyone touched by this unspeakable terror that they are experiencing.  Because when prayers go up, the blessings are sure to come down.

Giant Flower Canvas

Hello everyone:

It feels like I've been away far too long!  Life has been busy, tiring, and go, go, go!  And even though I try my best to take some time out and craft something, anything every day; there's just never enough time in the day to do the tasks and get photos and post to my blog.

Sigh....retirement is just to far away!!! LOL

I've been wanting to do some small changes in home decor.  And so I figured that I'd like to check out Pinterest to see what others are up to.  Using decorative papers of course!  And while there, found a lovely canvas using paper to create an eye catching layout.  I had to try it.  It looked so very easy.  And it really was.  I stayed up well into the night and ended up creating a trio of canvasses.  (Of course I haven't had the time to hang them on the wall though....)

I really like how they all turned out - the colors are so bright and cheerful, but not overwhelming for me and will more than likely make several others to be hung in different areas of the house once I come up with a different design.

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to leave me some bloggy love.  I love hearing from you!

MFP:SWAT #92

Hi all:
The card below was created for Mark's Finest Papers Sketch with a Twist Challenge #92.  The challenge twist this week was to create a card with something 'over the edge.'

Although the twist sketch used a square as the 'over the edge' focal point, my square dies and punches are packed away and so I used the circle punch that was already on my desk.  Hopefully it still fills the requirements of the challenge sketch.

Recipe: Stampin' Up! cardstock, ribbon, Inkadinkado stamp, and Stampabilities "Be Strong" stamp

I decided to keep the card rather simple and not do any embossing, added color, or patterns.  Ok all, it's late, and I keep forgetting that I'm  getting old and I must get more rest! LOL.  So with that being said, Nighty Nite, Sleep Tight!

Tile Art

Hi all:

WARNING:  DO NOT USE MODPODGE TO SEAL. BEEN THERE. DONE THAT. RUINED!!!

I've always been a huge fan of creating with tiles.  Yes, the tiles that you put on your floor or wall.  Except I put them in other places.  I break them into pieces,  leave them whole, cement them to other household items, glue little bits and pieces of things to them, paper them, and paint on them.  They're cheap and I get to experiment with different techniques.  These 4"x4" tiles here, which were left over from another project, were done with alcohol inks, Lindy's Stamp Gang mists, homemade alcohol sprays and stamps.

The first tiles were done using Tim Holtz alcohol inks.

This tile was done using Tim Holtz alcohol inks and Lindy's Stamp Gang mists/sprays.

This tile was done use homemade alcohol spray
(I used pink, coral, brown, and light green markers; along with alcohol)
and stamped with Stazon ink.

The one thing that I love about using the alcohol inks is that no two tiles are ever alike.  Of course, you can use the same combination of colors on several tiles, but they mix and mingle in unexpected ways and still turn out to be beautiful.

I do suggest that when you are finished with decorating your tiles, even if you use your heat gun to dry them more quickly, seal them with either ModPodge or a spray sealant.  They make great coasters or little pieces of art to hang on your wall or display on a stand.

I'll be making a quick trip tomorrow to a local organization here called Restore to grab a bunch of them (they're only $.15...) and experiment some more.

Until next time.

MFP: Speedy Fox and Friends Challenge 205

Hi all:

The card created below is for the Mark's Finest Papers Speedy Fox and Friends Challenge #205.  The challenge called for the use of a negative from a die cut.  I decided that I didn't want to use the negative of a large die cut; such as a frame, and instead opted to use this small bird die cut from a previous project.

This card was created using lime green textured card stock to which patterned paper called Sunflower by Autumn Leaves was adhered to.  I stamped the sentiment, Congratulations, with Stampin' Up! Bermuda Bay ink, punched a border, and two bows were added to finish the card off.

Until next time

MFP Color Challenge 16

Hi all:

The card below was created for the Color Challenge over at Mark's Finest Papers, a Heinrich Company. The challenge this week was to incorporate the colors Grey/Gray and Burgundy.  The guidelines ask that you use the challenge colors as the main colors in your project; whether a layout or card. And you could use any shades or hues of the challenge colors.

Ok, did you ever have one of those moments when you say "mmmm, not sure I like the layout of this?" Well, that's what I did.  And so I went back and changed the placement of the flourishes.  Still not sure whether I like it better, but it's done.

The main design of the card is in several shades of grey/gray adhered to a white card stock base; with only a  burgandy mulberry flower to finish it off.

Until next time

MFP/Color Challenge: Burgundy and Grey

Hi my crafty peeps:

The card created below is for the color challenge over at Mark's Finest Papers.  The challenge this week was to use the primary colors of burgundy and Grey.  And this is what I came up with

Products used:  textured burgundy/grey card stock, oak leaf punch, EK Success flower punch, sentiment by Inkadinkado, ColorBok Neutral foil patterned paper stack, Craft Medley cup sequins, Glossy Accents

The patterned paper is a mix of a darker grey and foil black.  I've punched several oak leafs in grey and burgundy and used them to surround the punched flower of the same patterned paper.  All of this has been double matted to the burgundy card stock base.  To complete the card, I've piled on a bunch of sequins to the center of the flower and added Glossy Accents to hold them in place.

Thanks for stopping by.
See you soon!

MFP: SWAT Challenge 91

Hi all:

My procrastinating daughter told me that she needed a birthday card five minutes before she was to go out the door to meet a friend.  "Nothing fancy, but I know that she liked the last birthday card that you made for her," she says.  No pressure right? LOL

And since I've been trying to keep up with the Challenge Blogs that I like to frequent, I decided that I'd add another card to the SWAT Challenge at Mark's Finest Papers, a Heinrich Co.  So, this is what I came up with.

This week's challenge twist was to create a pocket card.  To finish off the card I added a Prima cloth flower with a button to coordinate with the textured cardstock.  The tags inserted into the pocket say Happy - Birthday - Friend.  It actually did come together pretty quickly. And I scored a quick kiss on the cheek on her way out the door. Worth it!

Until next time
