Scraps of Color Hearts and Roses Blog Hop 2014

Hi crafty people:

I just wanted to pop in to tell you all about an event happening over at Scraps of Color.  It's going to be a blog hop focused on LOVE....aaaahhhhhh L-O-V-E.

Sign ups are currently open to join in on a celebration of the 'season of love.'  That's right, Valentine theme projects will be posted on each participants blog during the hop.  Projects can be cards, altered art, layouts, decor and gifts, mixed media, etc.  And blog participants can offer blog candy, but it's not required to participate in the hop.   The host for this swap is Cheryl L. (NCPeach).  You can view her blog at http://www.onecraftyncpeach.blogspot.com/.

And if you'd like to join in on the hop and you have a blog, hurry before sign ups close.  There will be 14 participants this go around.

You can find more information at http://scrapsofcolor.ning.com/events/scraps-of-color-hearts-and-roses-blog-hop?xg_source=activity

Did I mention that I'll be offering blog candy?  Not sure exactly what yet, but I'll figure that out when I start rummaging around my stash.  It will probably be an eclectic mix or mod-podge of crafty items, but I definitely will be gifting crafty goodness for someone that becomes a follower or (already follows my blog) and makes a comment on my hop project.  (USA only please)

So be sure to become a follower of this blog and hop along through each of the participants blogs to see what we've come up with!  All of our love themed blog post projects will  be up on Friday, February 14th.

Stay tuned....a list of HOP PARTICIPANTS will be posted here soon

Until later

MFP: Tutorial Time on SpeedyTV 84

Hi all:
Just a really quick post today.
At http://mfpspeedytv.ning.com/page/tutorial-time-on-speedy-tv-challenge-84 the challenge tutorial was to learn how to make "oriental lanterns."  An easy-peasy project right?  Wrong....I once had a paper crimper. I bought it many years ago.  And it sat on a shelf for many years after that. Collecting dust, being move from the shelf to the drawer, then into a box, then back up on a shelf.  Until one day when I was doing some reorganization, I said to myself "it's trash, I never even use it, not even occassionally."  So, into the trash it went.  Never regretted tossing it....until now. LOL

And so I "made do."  I used my MS scoring board to make score marks; which I then folded back and forth into mountain/valley folds.  I added a couple of strips of paper to the top and bottom; stretched them somewhat and  then adhered them to my page.  Not the best looking oriental lanterns, but I think that they're "recognizable."

Until later.

CFC126/CAS-ual Fridays

Hi all:
Just a quick post before I call it a night....6:00am comes really fast when you "HAVE" to get up in the morning!

This card was created for CAS-ual Fridays.  The clean and simple challenge blog.  And this week the theme was to do color blocks.  And so I pulled out my underused stencils.  You know the ones you buy, buy, buy and then they just sit, sit, and sit?

I thought that I could make a quick and easy clean and simple card using them.  This card was stenciled using one by Americana Classic.  It's an 8 1/2x11 size, so it makes it easy to create it in a large scale and then cut down to size. I started out with paint and decided  that I didn't have the patience tonight to wait for it to dry and photograph.  So, out came my Stampin' Up! ink pads in Concord Crush and Pear Pizzazz, along with an Ink it Up! ink pad in True Red.  I used GeorgiaPacific card stock in white for the base of the card.

This week, the winner of this challenge gets to choose the stamp or Fri-Die set of their choice from

And I have my eye on several stamps sets from their store on my wish list, LOL, so wish me luck!

More tomorrow!
Until next time,

MFP: Simple Salutations #80 / Inspiration Challenge #46/Color Challenge#6/Oriental Sketch#20

Hello everyone:

The cards below were created for the current challenges happening over at Mark's Finest Papers  http://mfpspeedytv.ning.com/page/challenges .  The first card up for one of the challenges is to create a  baby card.

http://mfpspeedytv.ning.com/page/simple-salutations-challenge-80

The second card challenge issued was to create a card using photos as your inspiration.

(I decided to create a tag instead of a card)

And this is the sketch that has been provided for this week's Oriental Sketch Challenge

Hi all:

At MFP the challenge is to create a center step card.  I like step cards and the different dimension that it gives.  It really enhances whatever embellishments you add to your card.  It can very few embellishments or a lot of bulky embellishments to which you can create a envelope that will accommodate it.

I already had a few supplies lying around and just found this image in my stash and added some Tim Holtz wings to it and a few little MS butterflies.  It makes for a cute card for a little girl doesn't it?

MFP:Sketch with a Twist 81

Good morning:

Today's card was created for a Mark's Finest Papers challenge over at http://mfpspeedytv.ning.com/page/sketch-with-a-twist-challenge-81.  The challenge was  to create a card
using this sketch:

I wanted to do something a little different.  And while I first thought to use ribbon or decorative tape to make the strips, I decided to use an image; which is a Prima doll, and butterfly punches made with a Martha Stewart punch instead.

http://mfpspeedytv.ning.com/page/sketch-with-a-twist-challenge-81

The card was made using Momenta textured cardstock as the base and patterned paper from ColorBok.  I have so much fun playing with these dolls and can't wait to get my hands on others to come!

Mark's Finest Papers: FOSTV 1.13.2014

Hi all, I'm back again with another challenge card for this week over at Mark's Finest Papers Friends of Speedy TV Challenge.

This week we were challenged to use the colors black and white.  And this is the clean and simple design that I came up with.  I've used my Lifestyle Crafts roses embossing folder again along with a sentiment that I've punched out with my EK Success scalloped circle punch, and Celebrate It Botanica ribbon.  It's a small card measuring at 5x4".

http://mfpspeedytv.ning.com/page/friends-of-speedy-tv-challenge-107-black-white-01-13-14

Clean and simple.  No muss, no fuss.  But I think that it makes for a pretty little card, and I'm happy with the way it turned out.

Until we meet again...

Chocolate,Coffee & Cards

Hi all:
I'm playing over at Chocolate, Coffee & Cards this week. And the ladies have decided together "Let's go to the Circus!"  What a fun theme huh?  And this is the card that I created for that challenge:

http://chocolatecoffeecards.blogspot.com/

I used my paper scraps to piece together a circus tent of sorts and adhered to a white cardstock base, to give the smiling Mr. Lion a place to play.  Mr. Lion is by Crafters Square and the balloon and tag,
which says Today is all about You, are made by Special Moments.  It was a fun little card to make and will make a great card for a child don't you think?

If you want to join the fun, you can by going to Chocolate, Coffee & Cards to read entry rules and post your project.

Until later

Mark's Finest Papers Oriental Sketch 19

Hello happy, crafty people!

Today's Oriental Sketch Challenge begins with this sketch

I came up with this design

Oriental Sketch #19

I chose to make this card with no colors other than black and white.
The images of the Asian lady and decorative fans were free from the internet.  I added a sentimen, which is risen using pop-dots, from Inkadinkado #97858-LL and used a vine leaf stamp from Martha Stewart.  I also used my MS border punch to frame the sentiment.

CAS-ual Fridays

Good evening crafty people!

Today was "one of those days."  I was pooped out.  And took a much needed nap after work.  That "nap" lasted until 9:00pm!  Now, I'm wide awake and have "scrapping" on the brain.

And so I decided to get a few cards before I take myself back off to bed.

The card below was created for a Clean and Simple challenge blog  at http://cas-ualfridays.blogspot.com/. The challenge for this week was to use a word to describe hopes for the new year.  My hope is to have more FAITH.  In all things.  Whether it be family, friends, my job, etc.  I'm going to try to do my best to overcome the obstacles.  And remember that "all things are possible," and you just have to have "faith the size of a mustard seed."

 And here is my card:

http://cas-ualfridays.blogspot.com/

I used a Lifestyle Crafts roses embossing folding, sentiment, and
scrap ribbon to complete my clean and simple design.

What's your word for the New Year?  I have more than one.  Not resolutions, but goals.  For a better ME.

Until next time

Mark's Finest: Tutorial Time on SpeedyTV 1.12.2014

Hi crafty folks:
I don't know what's wrong with me.  But it's 5:00 am Sunday morning. And I haven't been to sleep all night. I'm "hyper" I guess.  Not sleepy at all. YET! But when it's time to get up, I'll be sleeping like a bear in hibernation though.  And come Monday morning when I have to get up and go to work, I'll be meaner than a junkyard dog I suppose...from lack of sleep of course.

But after I've finished this post, I will most certainly take myself off to bed.  So here goes....

This card was created for MFP Tutorial Time on SpeedyTV.  The technique that was taught is called the Faux Label Technique.  You can find a quick tutorial here - http://mfpspeedytv.ning.com/page/faux-lable-technique.  I've done this for several cards before and it looks great even when you cut the pieces into squares (tiles).

http://mfpspeedytv.ning.com/page/tutorial-time-on-speedytv-challenge-83-1-10-14

Unfortunately, I think that my grand"monster" has gotten into all of my markers. And the caps were not on all of them. So you know what that means right? At least 50 dried up markers - and yes, some of them Copics! If I were an emotional woman, I probably would've cried.  But I wanted  to get the card done and so I pushed on with what I had in mostly bright colors.  Didn't turn out too bad, but I'll definitely give it another try when I make a run to the store to buy several more packages of markers in the next few days.

Anyway, off to bed I go

MFP

Hi all:

The first card below is for Mark's Finest Papers Simple Salutations Challenge #79.  The theme this week is to create a project using the colors black and white.  I used one of  my so very underused Prima Doll stamps for this one.  I hate to admit it though, I have no idea what her name is.  Some day, I will sit down and actually figure out which one is which!  The paper is by Me & My Big Ideas.  It is a predominantly black and white sheet stack, and so it was no muss no fuss to it.

http://mfpspeedytv.ning.com/page/simple-salutations-challenge-79

The next card up was created for the Inspirational Challenge; also at MFP.  Our inspiration for this week?  Puppy Dogs! Gotta love it.  And lucky me, one of the inspiration photos is of a dog wearing a black, white and red sweater and I already had the black and white stack out.

This is what I came up with
http://mfpspeedytv.ning.com/page/inspiration-challenge-45-puppy-dog-fashions-01-09-2014

And I just had to pop in a pic of my baby Maxx
(Spoiled!)

And lastly....
Again at Mark's Finest Papers, the color challenge for the week is pink and black/brown.  I chose to use pink and black hearts patterned paper.  I added a strip of grosgrain ribbon, flower bling and several flowers as embellishments.

http://mfpspeedytv.ning.com/page/color-challenge-5-pink-and-black-or-brown-1-9-14

I totally enjoy these weekly challenges.  Even when I think that it's not my best work. But it still is plenty of fun and keeps me scrappin'!

Goodnight all!

Mark's Finest Papers Challenges

Hi all:  Just a quick post this evening....or should I say this morning? LOL

The two cards below were created for the weekly challenges over at Mark's Finest Papers:

Friends of Speedy TV Challenge 106
http://mfpspeedytv.ning.com/page/friends-of-speedy-tv-challenge-106-new-year-s-resolutions

We were asked to share a New Year's resolution along with our projects.  And the butterfly on this card signifies several things.  Letting go; of past hurt, things that scare me, people who bring negativity into my world and the things that I have absolutely no control over.  It also signifies that I will soar; go for that next job level, leave my troubles behind, build better relationships with people who already mean so much to me; and finally really give it a go in selling more of my creations....more of a business venture.

Scrappin Happyxo 5000 Subbie Fabric Page Challenge

Hi all:

If you know me, you know that I love YouTube University.  You can learn just about anything there!  But what I love the most is that it is a community.  And for me, I like being a part of a group of women and men that love to craft as much as I do.  And so in my free time (I know, what's that???) I watch a lot of videos. Sometimes it's to learn how to use a product, sometimes to learn a new technique, and sometimes just to be entertained.  And of course, there's lots of inspiration there!

One of the ladies, Jeanette, that I've been watching for years, has reached a milestone.  5000 Subscribers! What an amazing accomplishment. And she is having a challenge to celebrate.  Her subbies are being challenged to create a 6x4 fabric page, sticking as close to possible with the color format that she's chosen, to be included into a book that she will put together as part of a prize for two winners.  There will be three prizes in all. 1. for a subbie's comment, 2. if you create an entry and blog/facebook/pinterest/video/photograph it, and 3. if you snail-mail your entry to her.  Oh, how that is going to be one beautiful book! Lacey, fabric goodness...

Here is the page that I've created to be entered into this challenge

Recipe for this page: fabric, lace scraps from my stash, RAKd/Prize flower, flower center, and flower trim from (Fiona) Jennings644, RAKd leaf pin and pearl trim from Sharon S.

In reality, because each of the pages that will be snail-mailed to her will be added into the book, it makes sense not to add a lot of dimensional embellishments to the page.  And even though I won't be mailing my entry, I settled for making a dress form layered with lace for some dimension.  Just because I'm one of those people that likes to stick to the rules. LOL.  Some parts of the page are sewn together, while some parts were put into place using my hot glue gun.  I like that I was able to use scraps of fabric and lace left over from making flowers to create this page.  And I really like how it turned out!

You can view her channel - and see the rules for entry - at http://www.youtube.com/user/ScrappinHappyxo?feature=watch and also view one of her fabric journals a thttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSRGD7vWuUM .

Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek.
Until next time, as always,
