Art Journal

Hello crafty people!
Just wanted to do a quick post of another journal page.  In one of my earlier posts, I mentioned that I have quite a few of the Prima Dolls, but tended to use the same one over and over again. I realized that I needed to pull out the others and start using them.  And so the art journal entry here is of a page that I created a couple of weeks ago.  I used the wing stencil from Sa Crafters along with homemade texture paste to give the wings a little bit of dimension.  The background was created by mixed several different inks into the gesso.  And I really like the grainy texture that the texture paste made this time.  I think that I didn't stir it well enough when I mixed it.  But I do like it.  I'll have to give mixing sand into the gesso or paint next time and see how that works out.

Thanks for stopping by.
As always, leave me some bloggy love so that I know that you were here!

Art Journal

Hi everyone:
I hope that you all enjoyed your Valentine's Day and have memories worth holding on to.  And if you joined in on the SOC Hearts and Roses Blog Hop, and you signed up to become a follower of this blog and left a comment about the projects that I contributed to the hop; then be sure to stop by on Monday, Feb. 17th to see if you've won the blog candy that I have up for grabs.  If you haven't hopped along, you're missing out on some great Valentine's and love themed projects contributed....and some candy....but you still have time. Check it out here.

I've been trying to do a couple of pages a week in my art journal. And the thing about art journaling is that you either love the page or hate it.  Sometimes, my best work has come about as the result of a mistake. And other times, I know exactly what I'm going for and it works out perfectly.  And then there are times that I really screw up a page.  I'm trying hard to embrace my mistakes and keep those pages in the journal, but there are  times when I tell myself "no way, I don't want anyone to see this!"

This happens to be one of my favorites though.  I used my Lindy's Stamp Gang inks in Tiffany Lou Blue, Ravishing Ruby and Van Dyke Sepia to create the page background and then again to create the butterflies that were punched with my MS punch.

I'll be sharing more pages from my journal here soon.
So, until next time

Scraps of Color Hearts and Roses Blog Hop: Day 3

Hi everyone:

So glad that you've joined us in the Scraps of Color Hearts and Roses Blog Hop: Day 3!  If this is your first time hopping; you've missed some great projects and should take the time to start at Day 1 here.

I, along with some other very crafty and talented women have teamed up to bring you some Valentine's and love themed projects Feb. 14th through Feb. 16th.  We hope that you've taken the time to hop along through all of the participating blogs, join up and follow them, including this one, and leave comments along the way on all of the projects.

I've done lots of projects for this hop.  It was so much fun and exciting to be a part of.  And for Day 3 of this hop, I've done a picture frame.  This one comes from my local Dollar Store.  I've painted it with black acrylic paint and added sticky flat back pearl and bling.  The metal flower was originally a hair clip that I took apart.  Can you see how the inner petals also resemble hearts?  I loved the look of these flowers so much that I bought these hair clips in sets of red, white, black, green, and purple!  And lastly, the image that I used was taken from Pinterest and colored with Copic markers.

I hope that you had a lovely, memorable Valentine's Day and weekend.
Thank you again for joining me, becoming a follower and making a comment. I really do appreciate them all. Your next stop should be http://craftysue52.blogspot.com/ to see another fabulous Valentine's project.

And don't forget to stop by on Mon., Feb. 17th to see if you won blog candy here.

Again, much love

Scraps of Color Hearts and Roses Blog Hop 2014

Hi all:

Sorry for the delay.  Blame Blogger!  I noticed that my post hadn't shown up as scheduled and tried to do a little bit of troubleshooting....It seems to have disappeared into cyberspace!  And so I had to do some quick improvisions...so here it goes.

Welcome back to the Scraps of Color Hearts and Roses Blog Hop...Day 2!  You can start at the beginning by going to http://scrapsofcolor.ning.com/events/scraps-of-color-hearts-and-roses-blog-hop for more details.

I decided to do a Double Z Fold Card for my Day 2 contribution.  The patterned paper used here is by Twitter Pop called Tinkering Ink.  I used my Martha Stewart lacy heart punch to add just a touch of dimension to the belly band, using red and white card stock.  The inside sentiment is part of some stickers that I've had in my stash for almost 'forever.' But, I felt that because the paper is so "busy," it didn't need a lot of embellishment to the inside.  It's an easy project and can be done assembly line style once you get your paper cut.

That's it for today.  I hope you enjoyed seeing this card.  And don't forget, the hop runs from Feb. 14th through Feb. 16th.  So you still have time to take a peek at all of the contributions by some very talented women.  Also, there's blog candy being offered on lots of the contributing blogs.  So don't forget to sign up to become a follower and leave comments on all of the posts.

I'll be announcing the winner of the blog candy being gifted away for this hop on Mon., Feb. 17th.

Until tomorrow...

Prima Doll Card #1

Hi all:

Just wanted to share a project that I worked on recently.  I went crazy for the Prima Mixed Media Dolls over the past year and realized that I don't use them enough.  And so I've decided that each week, I'll be creating a card, canvas, mixed media piece or some type of decor, etc. using one of the dolls.  Lately, I've been using the same one over and over again.  Probably because it's always still attached to one of my acrylic blocks and sitting on my desk. LOL. But I decided that it was time to pull out the others and put them to work for me.  This is the card that I created using Lorrena:

I guess that I was in a Valentine's Day kind of mood with the colors that I chose.
That's me, always the hopeless romantic LOL.

It's a really large card!  And yes, I know that I didn't color in the hair...I liked it that way!  Anyway the supplies that were used to create this card were patterned paper from the Colorbok Rosewood stack, mulberry paper flowers, tulle, white cardstock base by GeorgiaPacific, Offray acetate ribbon, and the Prima Tag Pad by Julie Nutting.  The effect of her dress was created by tearing the paper. And the tulle was added to give her a "bow" or "bustle."

After I completed that card, I changed my mind about using it as a "card," and decided (maybe) that I'd rather put it into a frame and hang it as a piece of art.  I'll give that a try later....

Thanks for taking a peek. And don't forget to leave me some bloggy love!

Scraps of Color Hearts and Roses Blog Hop

Happy Valentine's Day
and welcome to the
Scraps of Color Hearts and Roses Blog Hop of 2014!

Help us celebrate "the season of love" by hopping along through each of the blogs below.  First, let me get started by saying that each participating blog owner was asked to create Valentine's Day and love-themed projects for the hop.  So you will see a fabulously eclectic mix of cards, scrap booking, mixed media/altered art, decor and gift ideas. And some of the contributing participants will be offering blog candy, so don't forget to sign up and follow each blog and leave a comment for a chance to win.

I've prepared lots of different projects for you for this hop. Ummm, yes, I got a little carried away!  I was having so much fun, I was like the Energizer Bunny - I just kept going, and going, and going!  And this is my first time contributing projects in a hop...... So, I hope you don't get bored ...and stick around to view them all!  First up is a quick and easy project of  treat bags. They're very simple to make and takes no time to put them together.  You'll need some sort of bag; such as sandwich bags or cellophane bags, something to use as a closure; such as ribbon or twine or a stapler, card stock/patterned paper, possibly stamps or stickers, and treats of course.  For these, I used patterned card stock, cut into 1 1/2" strips and folded in half and stapled directly to the bag.

These are always fun to make as a sweet little gift for family and friends for any occasion.
The ones made here today will  be going to my grandson's daycare.

My second quick and easy project is coasters.  These are cork and can be purchased at your local dollar store.  These came 5 in each package.  I've painted them with black acrylic paint, punched and adhered a 2 1/2" circle of patterned paper to the coaster and sealed them with ModPodge.  Easy peasy!

And if you want to give them as a gift, put them into a cellophane bag
and tie with a piece of ribbon and you're done!

I began altering this box last Saturday morning and made quick work of finishing it off and being quite satisfied with how it turned out.  I so love the rich, dark, black of it.  I'm thinking that it will go very nicely with the tray that I created for another SOC event (That's Alterable 2013) and gave to my daughter for her bedroom.  I think she'll love it.

The applique flowers and a lacy pearl heart were ModPodged to the lid of the box, along with several other fabric flowers.  I also added several strips of flatback pearl bling to one corner.
The image is an ATC that I made several years ago.
It was stamped onto white canvas and several strips of lace were added to the bottom.
A single layer of black pom-pom trim was then adhered to the top edge of the lid;
as well as a black and white flowered strip of ribbon along the bottom edge.
I then used a coordinating black and white patterned card stock on the inside of the box.

And my last project for this hop is one that I've had for a year or so.  I like going to my local Home Depot just to see what they have that I can  be crafty with.  And I found this  plastic mail box.  It was $1.50 on clearance! It's approximately 2 feet deep.  It could make a fun piece at a Valentine's Day party or maybe in a school classroom for the kids to put their cards to their classmates in.  So this was the perfect opportunity to have fun decorating it.

After a coat of gesso, I had to add several layers of black acrylic paint to get a relatively even coverage all over.  I then covered the entire mailbox with several different torn loved themed patterned papers in red, white and pink.  I then wrapped a 2 1/2" piece of wide lace around the outside of the box and topped that off with two strips of thin, heart decorated ribbon in red and pink.  I added large, red,
medium weight card stock hearts also.  Everything was then sealed with ModPodge.
I added a couple of bows made of the same ribbon to
the flag and added a white flower to the center to complete

I love that all of the projects that I've done were completed with things already in my stash! And I can count them as projects completed in the 50 Projects Group on Facebook  (https://www.facebook.com/groups/50projects/).  Whooo-Hooo, I'm on a roll!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for stopping by and participating in the http://scrapsofcolor.ning.com/events/scraps-of-color-hearts-and-roses-blog-hop.

Don't forget to join this site/become a follower here and leave a comment for your chance to win some blog candy.  (There's a picture below of some of the goodies that I'll be gifting away).

Prima Doll Tag Charm Swap / Tmika of Scrapdaworld 2014

Hello crafty peeps!

Recently, I joined in on the fun of swapping on YouTube.
And Tmika over at http://www.youtube.com/user/scrapdaworld? feature=watch and http://scrapdaworld.blogspot.com/2014/01/prima-doll-tag-and-charm-swap.html recently challenged us to use those things that we went crazy for buying.  And these types of swaps are a good way to use those things that you decided that you "had" to have, those things that you "had" to have in different colors and different sizes, those things that you searched every local scrapbook store and major scrapbook supplies store for and every place that you could think of online.  Sometimes even asking friends in different states to locate and buy for you! And lo and behold - that stuff just went into your stash, never to be seen again! LOL.

Aaaah, until now....

So this time around we were challenged to use those items to make tags with our Prima Doll stamps, bottle caps and/or dominoes. One of my favorite things when it comes to scrapping.  Creating tags on a large scale. And if you've jumped onto the Prima Doll Mixed Media Doll bandwagon, then you know that these stamps are pretty large.

For this swap we were to make four tags; keeping one for ourselves, and swapping three. Each tag was to have at least three elements - flowers, ribbon, bling, brad, etc. along with the Prima Doll. And then a bottle cap or domino charm attached to the tag.

The supplies that were used to create my tags were:
homemade texture paste, chipboard tags, Basic Grey Embark and Colorbok textured patterned cardstock, I am roses, Trico, and Prima flowers, wooden picket fence, pearl bead spray,
Tim Holtz alcohol ink in Lettuce, acrylic beads
lace, ModPodge and Copic marker E33

All of the stamps were basically the same except the mixture of flowers.
At this point, I hadn't added the ribbon - it was still drying

I also created individual envelopes using these

I used the same papers to ModPodge and layer onto the painted
(My Studio sage green #72741) envelope

All packaged and ready to go

 Tag created for the hostess

I hope that the ladies in my group are as happy as I am with the way my tags turned out. Unfortunately, silly me, I forgot to take a picture of the bottle cap charms on the back of each tag.

Thank you goes out to Tmika for challenging us to use what's in our stash. It was fun! And please, leave a comment, I'm always happy to hear from you!

Until next time,
Hugs+Kisses
